Usually we do yard sales around this time of year. Given the amount of water we’ve gotten recently, I think the term “sailing” is more accurate. I drove a short circuit this morning – pun 100% intentional – and at times it was raining like crazy. Though today, the yard sales got moved inside to garages and living rooms, which felt weird. There were still sales and still bargain hunters. I finally caved to the rain and came home around 10:30 or 11 this morning. I don’t know what time the husband got home, because when I got home I promptly fell asleep on the sofa.
Ah, the joys of rainy day off work!
The rain is awesome; but the cooler temps are even better. This time of year we’re usually in the 90’s or 100’s on the thermometer. Today I don’t think we ever hit 70ยบ. That’s unprecedented.
The past couple of weeks have provided a few moments of stress, a few of serendipity, a couple of jaw-droppers, and the assorted WTF moments. Too tired tonight to go through the whole thing. Suffice to say so far the good outweighs the bad, and I’ll take it.
I took a few snaps today while out and about. They’re probably boring to you mortals who live in places where rivers and creeks run year-around, but here in the desert these things are borderline miraculous. Rather than the more typical insane downpours resulting in crazy flooding, we’ve got these lovely little ditch-fillers going.
There’s nothing earth-shattering in this gallery. I can’t say it was a lazy day off, exactly, but it was a fairly peaceful one overall. Tomorrow it’s back to the grindstone and I gather one of the new stores we took on is crazy busy, so my lazy work days may be over for a while.
A lazy day here or there is good for soul. I am glad you had one before the job gets busier.
Winter is suddenly trying to kick in here. Looks like a killing frost before the end of the week. I don’t like the cold so not happy but also it is inevitable.
I know – it’s exceptionally cool even here. I’m glad while yes, you’re up against another winter – this one will be mostly spent in better living conditions. <3
Whew. For a while there I thought your camera’s sensor was defective since I never saw the color green any of in your previous photos. Now I know it’s just your landscape that’s defective! Lol….
Those pics were a lot of fun. I really like the Superstition Mountain shot – very atmospheric (in every sense).
Isn’t it neat about taking pics of a mirror? Think of it like taking a picture of a painting. The depth of field represented in a painting is only an illusion. It’s 2D. Every part of the canvas is the same distance from the camera lens, so regardless how the artist made the actual scene appear, the camera can put it all in focus with even the most open aperture. Same with a mirror. It *looks* like there should be depth of field, but the light bouncing off the glass to the camera’s lens is now coming from the same distance – it’s now 2D, just like that painting. So zero depth of field.
Yay, science!

Yep, I understand the logistics of it – you’re taking a photo of the reflection of depth, not actual depth, but the optical illusion is still there.
And yes, the desert isn’t heavy on the natural green tones, though when we get rain you see an almost immediate difference. Things go from gray-brown to green in what seems like minutes. The slow rain and mists we’ve had lately are so atypical for us it’s crazy, and I’m loving it!
Glad you enjoyed a lazy, rainy day. Loved the photos. I hope things are going on a more even level for you now. My life is still very quiet but it will pick up with activities next week.
It wasn’t exactly lazy – I ran most of the morning then had to do a work meeting across town in the afternoon/evening. But at least I got SOME sleep!
