This was a lot longer and very different entry. I debated how much to say, where to say it, whether to say anything at all.
G had a stroke last weekend. It’s his second – the first was two years ago. He’s still very much alive, and still able to talk with relative clarity. He’s ambulatory, though for a couple of days it was in question (and he’s still wobbly at times).
I’m thrilled he’s still with me. It’s just been another sledgehammer to our lives, more to deal with that exceeds my spoon allotment by… a lot.
On a more mundane point, we’re living in a construction zone for a while. Crews came through last week with a street mill and ripped up the old asphalt over the past few days. They start work at 6am – LOUDLY. I’m usually awake by then, but I feel for the people who aren’t.
They’re supposed to lay new pavement this week. It’s Thursday and they haven’t started yet.
Our road did need to be repaved. The main drag in our little town was overhauled about a year ago, which rerouted a whole lot of big trucks through side streets like ours. It was a much bigger project, because in addition to the repaving, they laid down storm drains and other flood-prevention features. In the meantime, though, these low-traffic neighborhood roads weren’t built for heavy traffic, and our pavement took a beating. It was rough, and it was still in better condition than some of the other roads in the neighborhood.
With all that’s happened so far this year, we haven’t even attempted to go out and take photos, and I’m not sure if/when we’ll be able to resume. In the interim, my photos have been limited to phone snaps, mostly of plants because they’re a literal bright spot in my life.
Boring?
Yup.
At the moment I’m thrilled with boring. Boring means there are no crises to deal with. It means things are stable. I’m all for stable.

I’m sending healing vibes for a speedy recovery for G and I hope things calm down overall
Thank you. I’ll take it.
