I’m beginning to think Dangerspouse was right about bypassing social media. Facebook has become such a nuthouse. I’m trying to cut back on political garbage overall, but sometimes the targets make it entirely too easy for me. Case in point:

I suppose I could’ve let him slide, out of pity. The only reason I commented was that the article about the Roseanne spin-off was posted by a friend.
It’s entirely too easy to troll the Nazi contingent. Unfortunately 99% of it’s wasted.Β If their Facebook entries are any indication, they have a combined IQ hovering near 85: just enough to scribble letters, but not enough for any depth or understanding. Ergo, I usually bypass politics to focus on my writing and sales groups on FB. Usually. Except, I couldn’t resist in the aftermath of the Melania jacket frenzy:

I present to you: Melania Antoinette. Let them eat cake… Errr… She don’t care, do u?
Okay, I’m done with politics. Really, this time.
I have been doubling down on the authorship aspect. Unfortunately my current writing partner is embroiled in her own personal issues. She and I are of similar age. Her spousal unit just suffered a series of strokes and is hanging between life and death. I wish we lived closer – I’d be there to literally hold her hand, rather than the long-distance support line. She’s an extraordinary woman and I’m honored she asked to partner up with me on a project. She’s been recognized as a premier author in her country and could have chosen a lot of higher profile English-language people to work with.
So I’m trying to slog through and get some of my own things done, between falling asleep at the wheel. Today I went all domestic for a bit – dusted and mopped, did dishes, washed rugs, blah blah blah. And I’m freaking exhausted. My body sucks.
I’ve also been toying with the idea of starting my own indie publishing company. I had high hopes for the Greenhouse Servers project – it looked like we had funding and a rewrite of the original business plan. However, our funding source got their own swift kick recently, which we always knew was a risk. I’d rather see it now than XX months into the project. At least we’re also not OUT any money at this point.
The publishing company would be slower to get it going, which is perfectly fine with me. Plus, unlike the GHS project, I can do 99% of the publishing deal from home. We’d farm out printing, already have those sources lined out; and could farm out some of the editing end of things. The startup cost is pretty low, so we’ll see where it goes. For what it’s worth, I pulled a Tarot layout on it. I do them rarely because it’s not my forte. However, the cards were intriguing on this one, if I interpreted right.
No, I wouldn’t invest solely on the outcome of a Tarot reading. However, for a spirit booster (so to speak) it’s nice.
Besides, I swear just on the law of averages, sooner or later my serial entrepreneurship is going to hit something that works.
Sometimes I hate being right. Alas that it happens so often. You handled it well, though (and I *love* the “Melania Antoinette”!!).
Hey, if a couple of random painted cards on a table tell you you should dive into this venture, why are you even hesitating? C’mon, this is tarot! It’s not one of those “ridiculous” divination methods, like casting bones, entrails reading, or the scientific method. This is a deck of cards! How could they be wrong? (Although maybe you’re right to exercise caution. I’ll tell you what: do 10 readings asking the same question. If the same cards show up in the same order in the spread all 10 times, it’s a lock!)
Lol….but seriously, I think that independant publish idea is killer. If you think there’s a market, you certainly – of all people – have the experience and acumen to pull it off. And that’s not just me saying that. My tea leaves agree!
π
Hey, speaking of ventures, are you still going ahead with that stock photo idea? I got more BRILLIANT! INCREDIBLE! hi res shots if you want ’em.
xoxoxox
Yes, we’re definitely going forward with the stock photo project. We bought the software and have been trying to build a portfolio. It’s been too hot here to do any photo runs, though, and my schedule the past few weeks (with split days off) left us no wiggle room. The project on the whole is hubby’s baby – I told him I’ll take pictures, but making it happen is up to him.
Now I have a decent camera and back to two days off in a row, so plan to start shooting some still life shots. Anything you contribute would be welcome and then some!
I need to get our site up and running and set you up with an account to upload. We can upload any time, but to make it fly we’re going to have to swap out for a VPS (virtual private server.) In terms you’ll get, it’s the difference between a cheap disposable camera and a Nikon D7200. In the meantime, email works π
I WANT THAT D7200!! (Is that what your hubby has?)
Lol. Can we borrow some of that heat? Here it is almost July and I’m still wearing a jacket to work. Sheesh.
π
We’re 110ΒΊ plus this week. I’ll gladly split the difference. I think that would probably put you around 90ΒΊ. Which, coincidentally, looks like is in your forecast toward next weekend. At least we have AC here to offset the miserable heat.
Yeesh! That’s brutal. Well, if you feel like cooling off in our 90 degree paradise, we have a guest room π
You certainly don’t lack for plenty of money making ideas. Surely, with the law of averages, one of them should turn out to be the right one….
I am getting very tired of the politics and the bashing of anyone who doesn’t fall into line. I usually keep my opinions to myself but there are times when I want to stand up and just scream. Emperor with no clothes!!!! Can’t you people see what he is doing?
As for the jacket thing….how ignorant are these people and their assistants, guidance leaders or whatever you want to call them?
Even locally, we had a primary for a party’s candidates for the county sheriff. The results were very close (16 votes between first and second) There was a recount with the result of…..16 votes! So that loser dropped out, a supporter just announced his independent candidacy…then the current sheriff called a news conference that HE didn’t tell the independent to run but BTW, the current sheriff bashed the winning primary candidate and then said he would support the independent. Then the newspaper wrote an article about the back room politics. The sheriff had another news conference and again denied he influenced the independent and then bashed the primary winner again and another person who entered the race.
And today???? the independent in question dropped out….blaming the newspaper and tv stations on causing his problems. He and the sheriff continued to say the winner of the primary holds too many news conferences~~~he hasn’t been on the news or been quoted on anything except for appreciation for his party’s backing…..Who is kidding whom?
Politics were never a “nice” subject, but the entire political environment has gone downright toxic. There’s no moderate anywhere I can see, at any level of government. There are moderate people OUT of government, but our voices are being buried by the extremists on both ends of the spectrum. There’s no longer any attempt to hide the extremes, but the mind-boggling thing to me is that the far right has now aligned itself with Russia, of all things. It’s the antithesis of what the right-wing supposedly stood for. I truly don’t get it.
As to the money making stuff – I had umpteen opportunities drop into my lap over the years, and circumstance kept them just out of reach. This time I’m going for it. I know the numbers: about 1 in 10 ideas are viable businesses, so I was only being half facetious when I talked about the law of averages being on my side. I’m looking for things we can do from home, too, which theoretically limits our options, but in fact is how most businesses start. Even GoDaddy.com (which just sold for BILLIONS) started in the founder’s garage.
