Reader’s Digest Version

Posted on January 1, 2023January 1, 2023 by leilani

After my last ginormous word-plosion, I promise to keep this one short.

Par-tay

Thanks to everyone’s work schedule, our family Christmas party was yesterday at my younger daughter’s house. It was a potluck between four families – our older boys are out of state. So both my daughters and their families, us, and my younger daughter’s boyfriend’s parents.

I did more cooking in one day than I had in a good twenty years. I made all-day-simmered pork/green chili burrito filling; a bastardized turtle cheesecake made with a boxed mix, canned dulce de leche, melted chocolate, and walnuts…. Because G ate all the pecans before I could do anything with them, and I forgot to replace them with my last grocery run. I also made a couple of loaves of pumpernickel for the house. We brought home leftovers of the pork concoction. (It was good but I made a LOT.) I’m gonna divvy it up and freeze in meal-size portions. I also brought home some of the younger daughter’s chicken enchiladas, and some of the older daughter’s Spanish rice. I won’t eat the rice (don’t like it, even if it weren’t for the diet) but G loves it.

We also have leftover chicken soup from day before yesterday, and lots of it. I won’t have to cook for the first half of the week!

It’s G’s and my sixteenth wedding anniversary today. The plan is to go out for dinner – just not on the holiday.

Congrats on the 16 years!! That’s 16 more than I thought he’d be able to put up with you, frankly, but I’m glad to be proven wrong. Many more! Hope you have a wonderful dinner – and an even better 2023 🙂

Thank you. G’s my sweetheart and my best friend, even after sixteen years of marriage (seventeen together). I call that a win. 🙂

Happy Anniversary to both of you. I’m happy you have leftovers to keep you fed for a few more days. That’s the best part about holidays….leftovers!!!!
I’m hoping you have a wonderful year in 2023.

The body needs food, water, and air; so does the soul need love, laughter, and imagination.
