Despite the crush of doom and gloom endemic in the world right now, my microcosm saw a light at the end of a long, dark tunnel this month.
Our youngest grandson is on the spectrum and nearly 9 years old. He’s never been anything but home schooled because there was never another option, given his extreme behavioral issues.
This was his second week attending school away from home. And while it’s early, so far he’s thriving in the new environment.
I can’t begin to explain how monumental this is for the family.
There have been no behavioral issues in the classroom. No meltdowns when mama picks him up. It’s microschool – he attends three days a week, the ideal we had hoped for with this child. It isn’t technically a facility. The teacher is certified for special-needs children. The classroom is in her home, and she teaches an extremely limited number of students. Effectively it’s an extension of home schooling.
And it’s working for him.
Yes, there’s a planty note on this entry – the flowers & plants shown at the top of the page represent seeds I ordered a few days ago, and planted today. We’ll see where things go from here.
