I heard back from Dell. As expected, they couldn’t find a computer to match all the specs for my dying one.
Also as expected, they offered a compromise.
The picture at top of page is the model they’re sending. Click here for all the nitty gritty on the Dell site, but in general:
Alienware x17 R2 UHD
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6GB GDDR6
1TB PCie (SSD) drive
32GB DDR5 RAM
WIN 11 Home
Intel Core 12th Generation i7-12700H Processor (14 Core, Up to 4.70GHz, 24MB Cache, 45W)
If you don’t speak geek, the stuff in the above box translates to KICK-ASS VIRTUALLY-NEW COMPUTER. The refurbished version sells for over $2500 on Dell’s site.
Uh, yeah. I accepted their offer.
Based on the processor, it’s under a year old. (Intel first announced 12th-gen Intel CPUs October 27, 2021. They most likely weren’t offered by Dell until at least a couple of months after that.) Aside from the matching 17-inch dimensions and dropping back from dual-drive to the single SSD, it’s a HUGE step up from what I have now. Alienware is their premier gaming line, vs. the upper-middle-of-the-road version I originally bought.
If it works well – and I assume it does – I’m an extremely happy camper. The only downside, if you can call it that, is when I get ready to replace it (hopefully several more years down the line) I’m gonna be spoiled to a killer system.

Nice compromise. Enjoy!!
I’m stunned – but stoked!
Whoo! They did well, most impressive.
That they did. I was crossing my fingers they’d come back with a decent offer, but never expected this much of an upgrade.
Whatever the hell that thing is, I’m very happy for you!
Me too!
Sure hope this is the unit that will be just perfect for you. Good luck.
Thanks, Terri. I’ve crossed everything: fingers, eyes, knees, toes, purposes – whatever it takes, lol.
