You never know who’ll pick up on one of your random tweets. Today I was added by AncientAlienTec. The add came in response to a comment about my job. In my current geek-centric world at work we frequently use an internal instant messenger and while it’s mostly used for business purposes, we also tend to exchange some rapid fire and occasionally marginally-PC banter. Bad jokes are de riguer in my world, as are daily references to Shark Week, Apple fanboy stuff, and all things techie.
Ergo when I mentioned that one of our group conversations centered around the impending Zombie Apocalypse and Shark Week and Ancient Aliens, I didn’t think about someone else picking up on it. But what the heck – I watch because I’m a fan so I added Ancient Alien dude after he added me. (I’m operating on the thought that this is a guy, though heaven only knows for sure.) He also only had a handful of posts, all specific to the show, so he might simply be someone associated with the studio. (Massive clue: following 1200 people and has some 600+ followers but mainly lurking and nailed me on the first mention of the show. So to speak.) Then I decided what the heck, I’d add Giorgio Tsoukalos, the head honcho on Ancient Aliens on the History Channel.
Oh.
My.
God.
Tsoukalos is articulate on the TV show. A bit heavy on the cheerleader element, true; but you’ve gotta give him props for enthusiasm, and the show itself is centered around a sensationalist concept. On Twitter Tsoukalos has got a whole ‘nother show going on. He slices and dices his hecklers to verbal bits with a wicked sense of humor. He’s a frigging riot. He reminds me a great deal of Dangerspouse, only more fearless and marginally more PC. (To be fair I just started following him so can’t swear to the “more PC” thing.)
Aside to self: writing under optimum environment is a fantasy. Writing while sleep deprived is a one-way trip to totally messing up what you already wrote. AAAEERRRGH! Fortunately I have everything backed up. Still annoying as heck. Dinner a la Hamburger Helper isn’t conducive to improvement, either. I am cooking alternate days mostly now. I’ll do shortcut meals one night and do actual homemade the next. Yesterday was potato soup. Tonight H-burger Helper. Tomorrow will be a compromise with bean burritos, that nebulous food product halfway between homemade and fast food.
I really did intend to write tonight. (The manuscript, I mean.) A two hour nap last night (in lieu of real sleep) generated another long-overdue come-to-Jesus talk between G and me. He promised again not to touch the thermostat, and again he was lying. I love the man, don’t get me wrong, but if I ever stay awake again because of his inability to get the message, it may well result in his bodily harm. Once he is either permanently disabled or otherwise rendered incapable of touching the AC settings, I will get caught up on sleep and channel a bit of energy back into writing. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
