We’re getting rain all week. I swear we were transplanted to a different part of the country when nobody was looking.
I’d love to have something super-exciting to report. I won the lottery! (I rarely buy tickets, so my likelihood is below-average for this one.) My book’s a New York Times bestseller! (Obviously not, considering I’m still writing it.) I bought the moon! (Not yet, but gimme time. Everybody needs goals.)
Well there was one bit of excitement. Hubby and his buddy were in an accident of sorts yesterday. I was in the drive-through picking up a couple of salads when my husband called. About 30 seconds into the call he hung up after yelling they had a blowout. I had a few moments of panic before he called back to clarify it wasn’t a blowout after all. They’d been towing a golf cart (for resale, naturally) on a small trailer. A weld had broken on the trailer. The back end if the trailer hit the ground and was dragging on the roadway.
Nobody got hurt – not even the golf cart. They jury-rigged things enough to get home, and I assume there’s a welder who’ll be getting business shortly, but overall it wasn’t tragic.
Today I’m working a slow day, just put a roast and carrots in the crock pot, so lunch/dinner is covered. (Roast beef, fresh green onions, salt & pepper, Italian seasoning, and some added garlic, if you’re wondering. I considered adding diced bell pepper but decided against it this time.) Husband wants herbed noodles with it, or I’d have added baby potatoes to the pot.
The sky is not falling and we finally did another photo run one of my days off. This itty bitty computer has no card reader or USB ports, so I’m juggling computers to get any graphics work done. Innovation is all well and good, but can be close to useless when there’s nothing to tether it to the real world. However, since the battery lasts all day on the itty bitty machine (vs. about 90 minutes tops on the old one, even after a new battery), I’ll deal.
The header image isn’t my photo, sadly. The husband person snapped it while we were out and about Friday, the one day this week we had typical Arizona weather for the time of year. He’s captured a few planes flying overhead but this one’s a personal favorite, with its vibrant color.
My own shots are a little less dramatic. I only got a couple of them worth posting here. I know y’all are sick of seeing mountains so I won’t hit you with the whole gamut, only my two favorites.

I’m reasonably happy with both of these, despite the familiar territory. But I should’ve adjusted the field depth in the second one so the trees in front were either in focus or full bokeh.
By the way, those sheer cliffs are several hundred feet high. This isn’t an area for novice hikers. I don’t know how many people have been killed on the mountain just because they took a wrong turn/step. And this is peanuts compared to some parts of the range. Phoenix sits around 1000 feet in elevation. The top peaks of the Superstition Mountains are over 6000 feet. It’s roughly a mile straight up, relative to Phoenix.
I like your pics! Yeah, you coulda adjusted things on the second one – you had enough sunlight you could have run a really small aperture like f/22 probably, or alternately opened it up wide and used a really fast shutter speed for that delicious bokeh – but it’s lovely nonetheless. You got out there with your camera, that’s the important thing 🙂
That biplane, btw, is a Stearman, if I’m not mistaken. It was made by Boeing as a military trainer, and a number of examples are still around. A lot of pilots love them. (My dad is really into flying, especially classic planes. He flies a late 40’s Luscombe 8E. I get to hear allllllllll about those silly things 🙂 )
How did the roast turn out? It sounds delish!
The roast was awesome – and I’m honestly trying to learn how to work all the settings. I know what they are – what they do. I’m just trying to find the right buttons on the camera, lol
You have my full understanding there. I’ve had my D3300 for about a year now and I’m STILL having to stop and think sometimes about how to manipulate functions to get the exposure I want. Film cameras were so much easier, lol! But it sure is fun nonetheless, isn’t it? And you get some pretty damn good shots out of yours regardless 🙂
Thanks – and I’m trying. For me it’s really a learning curve because I’ve got so much going on I really don’t have time to dig in. I’m debating if I should find a one-day class on photography, just to learn a little more about the damned camera, lol
If it’ll help, I found this guy’s video tutorial on my D3300 to be the best around. I still go back and watch it once in a while. Here he is giving the same treatment to your D3400: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJGjTUICOnc
Glad you had time to post again. I’m past due, way past due. Can’t seem to find the ambition while fighting this cold. I am on the end of it, I hope and perhaps with a change in diet, my energy level will return as well. I have so many things I’m juggling right now that I can’t seem to find my comfort level. LOL.
I hear you about being so crazy busy. I’m trying to post more frequently to get back into the hang of writing. I’m out of practice!
