This week was a cleaning binge. Since I made a few extra bucks here and there, I actually bought a couple of new dresses and they were delivered yesterday.
All I had to do was make space in my closet…
With the milder temps and quieter days at work, added to being camped out at home for work, I took advantage of the lull to do my spring cleaning in fall. My poor husband doesn’t know what to think. My closet was jammed full of stuff I never wore. Not any more – there are (so far) four trash bags’ worth of stuff going to donation and two went to the dumpster. Shoes, belts, shirts, pants, whatever – if I haven’t worn it recently, it’s history.
My darling husband, God bless him, is a bona-fide pack rat. He doesn’t throw things out until they’re down to sub-atomic particles. Me? I’m fine with controlled chaos up to a point. But when I reach that point, it ALL has to go, or close to it.
The husband made noises about cleaning out his closet after he saw the bloodbath in mine. I just smiled and nodded. Nice try, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
With the cleanout came dust. Lots and lots and LOTS of dust. We didn’t have dust bunnies in the closet, we had dust elephants. Or dust whales, I guess, since they’re bigger. A whole herd of ’em. Between the climate and the shedding-est dog in the West, it’s a constant battle to keep the place from looking like the desert moved indoors. I wiped down and swept out and dust-mopped the room. It was glorious – for a whole five minutes.
I know y’all are bored to tears if you’re still reading about cleaning, but hey – at least it was a change-off from writing and pictures.
Husbands. We’re all alike 🙂
If only it were restricted to his closet, lol
Yes. Husbands should be kept in the closet.
Ha Ha!!! Both of our closets are full…no we don’t share one LOL But organized so they look okay 🙂
Cleaning is a good thing as is purging. Moving puts a fine light on this truth. As for boring cleaning blogs…. I may need your desert cleaning wisdom after I move. The farm doesn’t have soil it has sand (as opposed to nothing but rock at current farm). I am grateful the house over there has hardwood floors but I think I will be feeling like I live at the beach or in the desert once we are settled.
Absolutely. I have to periodically clear my space. It’s as much spiritual and psychological symbolism as physically healthier and practical. I need to smudge, too, to clear some of the crud out of the air.
Oh yes!! My Witch soul has to keep the ether/air clear and my kiddo is totally on board with the same. We will be doing a serious clearing of the house when we are moving in. We were over there today and once again my keens came home full of sand and it has been raining a ridiculous amount lately
I’d venture to guess it’s still raining there, with all the weather insanity on the east coast. Thank goodness you’re northward of the big storm!
I cleaned out my closet about 9 months ago. I expect it needs clearing out again. I have discovered a few of my favorite tops are too big now. I shouldn’t complain but they are some of my favorites. Boo Hoo! I need some new jeans as well as my others are getting too baggy.
Good for you for the weight loss, as long as it’s voluntary 🙂 And if you clean out the things that DON’T fit, it makes space for new things that DO fit!
