I m on day 4 of my 5-day vacation. I am trying my darndest to get the rewrite done on my book. The story’s there and pretty much in place, this is just the cleanup effort before I throw it out to the masses. It’s a fantasy story I started originally when my youngest was a baby. I let it languish for the better part of fifteen years, then took it up again. I wrote pretty faithfully to it for a while, but after a bit it kind of fell by the wayside again because life being life… well, that kind of says it all, doesn’t it?
Finally a couple of years ago I just plain hammered the thing out and got it finished. The story’s decent but it has more plot holes than your average block of Swiss cheese. So my goal is to plug the holes and fix any grammatical stuff, do all the general cleanup that’s doubly needed when you write something where the world is one you created. If I’m lucky enough to get this sucker up and take it live – and I WILL get there – I also know if I’m lucky enough to sell it to more than a handful of readers I’ll get smacked for any discontinuity. I’m early into it now. I’ve got over 54,000 words. By the time I finish I imagine it’ll be nearer 70K, but my aim’s for 80K. Here’s crossing my fingers.
I plan to spring tomorrow for this book IF it’s available in a format I can use on the iPad. I downloaded the Kindle app back when, so think it would be doable with that. If not, I’m sure there’s another alternative out there that’ll make it so. The book talks about the real-life methods that particular author took to successfully market his eBooks. I don’t have his name behind me, obviously, but names are built on success as much as success is built on names. It’s a wheel I want to get moving. It’ll be bought tomorrow but first things first: the book gets DONE, asap.
I am hammering out keys like crazy the past couple of days. Unfortunately my body’s giving me grief so I have to take regular breaks. Spent a couple of hours yesterday with an ice pack on my right arm and lost the majority of the day because I pushed too hard early on. Ouch. I am trying to stop before getting to that point today.
In theory I still have tomorrow to write but realistically tomorrow’s going to be devoted largely to getting my car back in operating condition. It is mobile at the moment; I just can’t afford to let the minor issues slide until they’re major issues, not when I have to drive to work at such an ungodly time of the morning. I don’t care to be hoofing it at 4am, thank you very much.
I want to get some money coming in. I want to be a published author. The opportunity is there and sticking its tongue out at me, and damned if I’m letting it slide by again.
