Of the handful of people who read here, I’m pretty sure everyone understands the scope of what just happened in our election, and assume we’re doing whatever we can to prepare before madness descends.
If you don’t already have one, get an herbal medicine book or two. I own several, but this one has great reviews on Amazon if you don’t already have one. (This is an affiliate link. If you buy the book I might get a penny.)
Our health care system is a hot mess now. It’s not getting better with the oligarchs ripping it to shreds.
Obviously get into the most cost-effective housing situation you can find.
Expect Social Security to be slashed or eliminated altogether. Both my boys are dyed-in-the-wool Dems. My girls bought into Cult 45, including the one who’s on SSD. I doubt she’ll get it until she’s out on the street without a penny, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she can’t figure out why.
If at all possible, plant a food garden and get chickens or any other self-supplied food source you can manage.
If you can swing it, get an off-the-grid heat source and a small generator, along with a couple of small solar panels to charge the generator. It will allow you to run and/or recharge electronics and small appliances.
It’s gonna get rough, probably fast.
Expect changes to the Internet and other communications systems. We may be priced out of Internet services, and given the apparent determination to eliminate the USPS, I wouldn’t be surprised to see that disappear too. It makes sense – any kind of reliable information pipeline can spur unity, and can’t have that now, can we?
This regime makes no secret about destroying the nation at all costs. We can’t prevent our freedoms from being flushed, but we can take whatever measures we can to survive. I’ve never wished more that I was wrong, that the extremists weren’t a threat to the entire planet.
Because I need to get my mind on something else, here’s few more photos from our vacation to Colorado & the Midwest.
The photo at the top of the page was an old barn in (I think) rural Kansas
This row of metal chairs sits in the town-square park in Pella, Iowa.

I’m not sure what the contraption shown below is, but the light and the machine itself made a charming photo. It took an award on the photo membership site a couple of days ago.

Northern New Mexico coming up on Taos took me by surprise. I’m not sure why, since it’s got all the same elements as northern Arizona: mountains, pine forests, etc. It’s somehow different than northern Arizona, though, even in its wooded and mountainous areas. This solitary tree makes a pretty picture against the peaks in the distance.

This is only a small handful of the thousands of photos I took, but I’m happy to be growing as a photographer. The ones I take these days are vastly different and better, as compared to what I took on our last cross-country trip three years ago.

Than k you for the advice. I hope it doesn’t come to that. I had been seriously thinking about moving but now I don’t want to spent any unnecessary money.
I hope it doesn’t come to that too, but the more I watch, the more I have to grudgingly admit the preppers have good ideas.
