I bought the blouse pattern I was eyeing and have earmarked it for my next project. I still want to do the purple polka dot, but it got sidelined. Again.
I buy PDF patterns, which entails downloading, printing multiple pages, taping them together like a puzzle, and cutting out the respective pieces. Unfortunately, our printer has an attitude, so I typically email stuff to G to print out – and he promptly ignores it until I threaten to feed him liver and onions (one of the few meals he genuinely loathes.) It’s not yet bad enough to buy liver, but my irritation levels are on the upswing.
Today I decided I’d give the printer another shot on my own, and darned if the thing didn’t actually PRINT. The results have been assembled, taped together, cut out, and are ready to use. So this is what I get to do first — and can’t say I’m sorry, because I really REALLY love this pattern.
I have four yards of the blue print material shown below, which I think should be plenty for the dress. I don’t think I’ve got enough solid black to do everything I intend to do, though.

This is a slight magnification of the print – it’s really tiny. I love the critters and the trees. This photo makes it look a bit like denim, which is misleading. It’s quilt cotton. the most marvelous thing in the world to wear. It softens with every wash, and I’ll probably wear out the garment before I get sick of wearing it.
This is the gist of my plan for the top of the dress – black collar and buttons, and (not shown) black binding around the hem of the sleeves to emphasize the tulip design.
The print is smaller than this shows. This version is good enough to get the idea across, though, and I wasn’t willing to devote any more time to Photoshop tonight. The plan is to make the skirt portion of the blue fabric too, or mostly so. If I can’t eke out enough length to make the entire skirt out of the blue print, I’ll add a strip of black at the hem.
Heck, I might add a strip of black at the hem anyway, because I think it would look good.
Now if I were only that skinny!
A couple of photos before I go…

This old car was here in town. We must have passed it dozens of times, but didn’t notice it until a few days ago.
This roadrunner stopped to catch his (her?) breath at the top of a smallish bridge. There were no other cars in sight so I stopped to get a picture.
It’s too hot to be out very late when we do a photo run. Thankfully the early mornings haven’t been too bad the past couple of weeks. Now if we’d just get some more rain…

I love that blue print!!! Even if you have enough of it, I think a black hem on the skirt would look good. Can’t wait to see it!!!!
Thank you! I’m really jazzed about making it and hope it turns out well.
I think that print will make for a great looking dress. You are so talented. I hope you find time to make the dress very soon.
Thanks, Terri! I’m waiting on the delivery of some more black fabric, which in theory should be delivered by the end of the week. Fingers crossed anyway!
