Since my overtime-laden project evaporated, I’ve moved to Quality Control. I read people’s notes and listen to calls all day long.
And sometimes weep.
Sometimes, I weep all day.
We’re operating a business. Some of our employees are bilingual and I can sort of give them a pass. Anyone who can converse on the phone in multiple languages has my admiration, even if I grit my teeth while listening and reading what they write.
But our folks whose sole or primary language is English… Hoo boy…
Among the misspells:
- Rigarteng (regarding)
- Costumer (customer)
- Colar (caller)
- Offences (Office – singular)
- Inversents (investments — I think)
- Licene (license)
- Proff (proof)
- Waned (want)
For the record, these aren’t one-off typos, nor do they scratch the surface of people murdering the English language.
Again — this isn’t on social media, it’s business. The illiteracy, especially among our younger folks, is staggering. I can understand misspelling the occasional word, but some of these are so far off the mark I had no clue what the person was attempting to say.

Enough ranting.
Sort of.
This photo was from Vero, though I didn’t take it. I got permission from the photographer to use it, as long as I gave him credit.
The sign translates to:
Vote Ali Baba, at least you are sure that the thieves are only forty!
I wonder if Ali Baba would consider running for office in the USA?
The photo at the top of this page made me laugh, and also was a perfect illustration of the title I chose for the post. I was trying to focus on the flowers — and instead the spider web and cactus spines are in focus, with the flowers bordering on abstract art.
It’s a great point. We want the “flowers” in life but focus on problems, on the things we don’t actually want (though in this case, I kinda like the outcome -the spider web is cool!)
Last-minute edit:
I loved the quip on the above photo so much I stole and translated it for my tee shirt shop.

I hadn’t added new designs in a while, but this was too good (and too timely!) not to add to my store.

That is a good quote. Wondering what is in store for our country. It seems like we don’t have many good choices. Good luck in your new work project.
Thanks Terri. I moved to the new team I think in September last year, so been doing it a while now. I can’t help but shake my head some days, though.
