This has been a bizarre weekend. After a week without a laptop, I’ve got one that works, albeit works very slowly. It can be upgraded to 8GB of RAM, which ain’t too shabby (and also ain’t too cheap.) It was a gift from the unlikeliest of sources, out of the blue. I discussed with the hubster whether or not to upgrade and bottom line is for now – the answer is no.
Not because hubster is against my having a good computer, but because after talking with G I went ahead, bit the bullet and ordered a new laptop on a payment plan through Dell. And this time I added coverage for accidental damage.
Lemme tell you, I am not one of those women whose eyes glaze over and her lips tremble at the prospect of a shiny new line of credit. Just the opposite. My eyes might glaze over, but it’s at the prospect of racking up another debt. I know this one’s doable even if I’m broke, but I still don’t have to like it, do I? I’ll like the computer (and the freebie tablet that was a sale bonus) and pay it off asap, and will breathe easier once it’s done.
The dime store psychic thing was another knot in my knickers today. I’m a moderator at Facebook group on reincarnation. Whatever your beliefs on the subject, there are a lot of people who have come to believe in it, many with layer upon layer of hurt associated with this life and beyond. We’ve got people who are literally crying out for help, and as a result the group has evolved from curiosity seekers to straightforward support. Because of the nature of the group, we disallow anyone’s advertisement for paid services. We started seeing people pushing psychic readings and past life regressions, etc – for a fee, of course. Because people were coming to us in trust and there was no way to vet the ones hawking their services, we just plain said NO. (Thankfully we’ve got some licensed therapists on board who are kind enough to guide our more fragile members, pointing them toward finding LEGITIMATE local help for their all-too-real mental health issues.)
Then there was today, when one person decided the rules didn’t apply to her. She was sneaky about it, setup a separate “free event” and her invitations to the event were a who’s who of our (extensive) membership. Five HUNDRED of our membership, adding them instead of inviting them, where possible. Strike 1. She stated ON the event that she’d been to FB who told her “not without paid advertising”. Strike 2 for busting FB rules. And her pinned post cited that this would be a monthly charge for anyone participating. Strike 3, yer out.
Houston, I’ve got a mother of a headache. But at least part of the headache’s now been canned and banned. Yeesh.
