This weekend is too short. I actually had Thanksgiving day off work, which was a welcome surprise. I worked Friday, on a voluntary basis, and am glad that I didn’t have to talk because it wouldn’t have taken more than a few minutes until I no longer COULD talk. Which is kind of where I’m at right now, which sucks. Oh yeah, and Friday was my birthday. We were supposed to go out to eat Friday night but nobody was up to it. We were supposed to go out last night but that didn’t happen either. We’re penciled in for lunch today instead, assuming I’m able to be more or less upright, which is dubious at the moment.
Bronchitis is my long-time companion. Notice I don’t say friend, because the lung crud isn’t welcome in any way, shape or form. I used to get it all the time as a kid. As an adult, I used to get doctors who basically blew me off at every opportunity because that’s what my employer paid them to do. Don’t think it happens? Think again. The doctors said as much, to several of us. A couple of years back I ended up in urgent care, which apparently didn’t get the memo. They told me I had strep and under no circumstances was I to return to work until the antibiotics had time to do their thing.
Huh.
My current PCP also has made a passing effort to actually address my health issues. In the course of checking me for other things, we discovered that I’ve 1) got asthma, which is why every winter I used to have a nonstop wheezing cough for months on end. And 2) I was still prone to bronchitis, partly because I have seasonal asthma. Go figure. I have the meds to address it and they’re sitting in my medicine cabinet but I haven’t used them yet with this bout because the wheezing only kicked in at o’dark thirty tonight. Starting tomorrow morning the inhaler comes out. Not one of the emergency puffer thingies you normally associate with asthma. This is a different animal that’s designed to control it continuously. It probably would, too, if I’d use it religiously once the weather shifts.
I also got a pneumonia shot a couple of years ago, which both helps me fight off the bronchitis and helps immunize me against pneumonia, in theory. I also did the flu shot this year again. With that three-pronged approach I know I’ll beat this in a few days. It’s the interim few days that are the kicker, because I need to talk on the phone for those days. That’s gonna be interesting, I have a feeling.
Our Thanksgiving was reasonably good. My daughter-in-law did the big meal at her house, and there was a house full. My hubby, who has always been given the silent treatment at family affairs, was finally embraced, both literally and figuratively. Amazing what happens when a couple of kids got diagnosed with life-threatening diseases and realized their pissy attitudes weren’t helping anybody. That ice wasn’t just broken, it was crushed and put into plastic cups.
My younger daughter stayed here because the grandson was sick. I didn’t realize I was sick then, though I’m sure I was contagious. Can’t do anything about it now. If I’d know I’d have stayed here too, but as long as I didn’t pass on the creeping crud to anyone there, it was worth the trip.
Short yard sale run this weekend but got a couple of interesting goodies. They’re posted on my FB page if anybody’s interested. I assume if you’re reading here you’re also reading my FB page. I have a heck of a lot more followers there than I give the details to THIS page. It’s ungodly late tonight and I’m ready to call it a night. I hope everyone’s Thanksgiving holiday was wonderul and safe, and hoping the rest of the holiday season follows suit.
