Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho

Posted on April 11, 2010 by leilani

Gotta love working on the weekends.  Today was dead as a doornail.  Not that I minded too much.  The slowdown let me complete some of  my certifications, the ones that’ll qualify me to move to one of the other locations.

I like where we are now, don’t get me wrong.  That goes for both living situation and work situation.  But moving eastward will make it considerably easier to find nicer housing at a lower cost.  What’s more, the further east, in general, the better the neighborhood.  I’ll be moving back to swing shift (at least for the short term,) but if I’m living five minutes from work and have a nicer, bigger place it will be worth it – particularly when paying a few hundred less dollars for the privilege.  Right now it’s a long-ass haul to work every day and between driving an older car and driving an older body, I would be tickled pink to cut my commute.

Bonus points because the job focus will shift more to my area of specialty and my boss has already recommended me for management training, hopefully to begin in the next few weeks and I know several people who work at the other office.

While I can’t guarantee the spam brigade is gone forever, it turned out that my new favorite problem children were flagged by others for spamming, too.  Enough so that they’re actually blacklisted by a lot of service providers.

There are plenty of peaceful, geek chic ways preventing verbal grenades from striking your virtual room.  Sometimes all it takes is a carefully crafted virtual deadbolt, installed last night.  No injuries, no loss of life, and peace returns.  The drama queen position has already been filled in this cyber corner, and my butt’s too fat to share the throne.  I took down the one previously approved post and blocked a couple of suspect virtual callers.  If vouch for someone you know got accidentally locked out, let me know and I’ll make them a key.

Since the doctor has decreed G and I both attend to a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet, I fixed spaghetti tonight for dinner.

Yeah, yeah I know.  But it was whole-wheat noodles, 96 percent lean hamburger in the sauce, the sauce itself was low fat and all in all we were pretty good.  Since G’s taking his BP meds his pressure has fallen dramatically, too.  I started cooking more with No Salt, which is a good thing for us both.  Ironically the one diet recommendation from Atkins that I didn’t take was to up my potassium.  Supplements offer a whopping 2 percent of your RDA for potassium.  No Salt delivers something like 40 percent.

If I stick to my regimen from the health food place, I’m doing great on the diet too.  Obviously not losing weight fast, but can finally begin to tell a bit from the way my clothes fit.  I can definitely tell by how soon I back away from the table.  I used to routinely go back for seconds and sometimes for thirds.  Now, with comparably (and sometimes smaller) sized portions, I find myself full about halfway through.  Yay for 5-HTP!

The body needs food, water, and air; so does the soul need love, laughter, and imagination.
