After yesterday’s downright morbid entry it is official. I need to get writing again, and not my fantasy – back to my suspense roots, hah!
Really, I am in a reasonably good mood today, trying not to let the government bullshit control even how I feel. Yeah, I’m fed up with government leadership and yes, I hope to GOD we vote in somebody with a conscience someday, but you know what? They’re the same morons who have been in office for a while and when you get down to it, not much has really changed. Short of moving to another country – where chances are things would be even worse – it’s out of my control as it ever was. So I live and I die and even Congress can’t change anything about those two facts of life.
That really sounded morbid, too, didn’t it? It wasn’t meant to be. I’m just feeling a bit more philosophical about it overall. I’m grateful I have a job for the moment. As I told G, after all the slicing-and-dicing of my paycheck things are tight but we DO have enough to survive for the moment. That’s more than a lot of families can say. My heart goes out to those who are without work and without any remaining safety net.
It’s the dog days of summer here. We’re “only” supposed to hit 107ºF here today (as opposed to the 118ºF high in June) but the one saving grace – such as it is – is that we’re predicted to have an ongoing possibility of rain at least through midweek. What rain we’re getting now typically hits at night, which is against the monsoon normal pattern and has been pretty much the rule this year. We used to get rain in the afternoons just as people were headed home from work for the day. The nighttime shift makes the commute a little easier but does nothing to cool the air. When it rains in the afternoons it knocks a good 15-20 degrees out of the air almost immediately.
Those temperatures are well within the norms for the Phoenix area in summer, by the way. Another eight weeks or so and we’ll start cooling down a bit. It’s usually October-ish when we start seeing comfortable daytime highs. Maybe we’ll get lucky and it’ll cool off in September.
I’m definitely ready.
