Went to doctor today – the normal routine annual checkup thingamabob – and doctor whipped out pen and filled out all kinds of forms. 1) I’m getting my handicap placard for the car, long overdue. Wish I’d asked sooner! 2) I got the paperwork signed for FMLA. Whether or not the office approves it remains to be seen, as I’ve been informed they can do whatever the heck they want. (This is Arizona, a so-called “right to work” state, which is a misnomer if ever there was one.) And 3) I got referred to an orthopedic specialist who might actually do something to help. Yay for help!
I’d pretty much resigned myself to dealing until I collapsed, but when I spelled out to the doctor that I literally can’t make it through walking through the grocery store without being incapacitated for several hours (or days, in some cases) afterward, he whipped out the referral pad and decreed it is past time to take it to the next level.
Eventually I’ll end up with a knee replacement. We already know that. But I really need to lose weight before that happens, and it’s going to be postponed as long as possible for a whole laundry list of other reasons, too.
The fibro is still largely controlled by magnesium, with only the occasional flare-up (generally mild and short-lived when they hit). The bigger issue is, and has been for a long time, the knees. So this is an awesome thing! I might not feel like a 90-year-old any more! I might be more mobile and get to do stuff again! Heck, I might get to TRAVEL again, which would be seriously awesome!
