Free Stuff That’s Expensive

You know when free-speech activists come after your church, you’ve stepped over the line.

A group calling itself ANONYMOUS has warned the Westboro Baptist Church, the fringe organization protest the funerals of those killed in war (among other things) to cut it out or get hacked – and not just the church sites, but pretty much any of its congregation’s personal and/or business sites too.  Kind of Wicked Witch of the West-ish: “I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little websites too.”  I don’t know if that’s good or bad; it will stop the online ramblings of the church and its congregation, but will stop the advance warning that allows things like state intervention to prevent the inappropriate church actions.

This church, which calls itself Baptist, really isn’t.  It isn’t a member of the Baptist Convention.  Therefore imho the Baptist organization has the right and responsibility to sue the bunch and tell them to stop using their name, too.  And for that matter, Westboro as a community has a right to seek legal intervention.  I hate seeing it unfold that way.  We’ve lost so many fundamental freedoms over the past few years, I hate to see freedom of speech and the right to peaceful protest impinged in any way.  The Westboro group personifies the reason we HAVE freedom of speech – the right to be free of religious tyranny.  It’s ironic that Westboro uses freedom of religion as an excuse to perpetuate its cruelties, and in so doing may stem freedoms for those with legitimate concerns.

By the way – ANONYMOUS in this case isn’t an idle threat; it’s a known hacker or group of hackers that’s shown itself capable of doing exactly what it claims.  So yeah, Westboro’s web stuff is toast if this group decides to go after them.

Okay… sucking in a deep breath here and thanking God for the better part of two days off.  Turned on the TV yesterday afternoon around 3-ish; next time I was conscious it was 10:30 at night.  Was up for a couple of hours then went back to bed and slept until around 7:30 this morning.  Can’t say I overslept, either.  I have to work tonight but only three hours.  I could probably volunteer for more if I wanted to – and therein lies the catch: if I wanted to, which I don’t.  I’m dead on my butt and have to strike a happy medium between the money we need and the body’s screeching objection to more.  So far I’m doing reasonably well, and can’t see any reason to mess it up.

We’re getting rain again today.  It started yesterday after crazy winds and dust storms.  It was wild out driving yesterday!  We headed out for the day and didn’t stay out for long.  There were tumbleweeds rolling through the intersections and one place the dust got so thick you could barely see.  You normally get that a few times during the summer but it’s uncommon this time of year.  Of course the dust stopped being an issue once the deluge hit.  SUCH fun!!

G said it’s really chilly out today, cold enough I’m going to try to find my winter coat.  I’m tired of freezing my tatas off.

I’m making this short – not really a lot going on other than work, work – and did I mention work?  And so it goes…
